Ever wonder how you can make hip hop beats with your computer? Ready? Making beats is nothing more than putting in all the ingredients of a hip hop song and leaving out the vocals.

Beats take first priority. So we need to enlist the drums for this part. The 'drum groove' as they call it, needs to be from four to eight measures long. A good program for this venture is called "MIDI". Help, as well as samples, can be obtained online. Find the 'royalty free' ones so you don't have any payout.

Once you have the beat and tempo you desire, you can lay down a bass line. As with the drums, a pre-recorded loop or an original line can be used, depending on your taste. It compliments, or harmonizes, with the drum groove.

Your creativity explodes at this juncture. The 'Orchestration' is next. You take whatever your favorite instrument sounds that you want to feature in your beat, and lay them over the drum groove and the bass line.

After you get the hang of how to do this with your music creation software, then you can start to play around with adding samples. But be careful not to illegally grab somebody's copyrighted works. If you really want one that's been copyrighted, simply ask the owner if you can use it.

Something else to remember is that networking is big in the music creation community. So get yourself out there and interact with others who making beats, and share techniques and ideas.
